The road is life: travel quotes that inspire

I’ve got a weakness for anything travel-related or wanderlust-inducing… so it’s no surprise that I have dozens of quotes and inspirational Instagram photos screenshot-ed and saved on my phone. Over the months/years, I’ve hoarded quite a large collection of quotes that make me want to take a firm hold on my life and start creating the lifestyle I want to be living (read: travel often, longer, further).

I thought I’d throw together a little post sharing some of my favorite quotes and words that encourage and embolden my every day pursuits! (You might pick up on my affinity for Kerouac…) What are your favorite travel quotes?

“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.” — Jack Kerouac

tumblr_neelfy2l0r1snexhzo1_1280“I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.” — Bill Bryson
“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.” — Jon Krakauer

“Sal, we gotta go and never stop going ’till we get there.”
“Where we going, man?”
“I don’t know but we gotta go.”on+my+list“You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
